The Indiana Jones Files… ***SPOILERS***

May 22, 2008 in Movies and TV

It is 9:00am and I am starting Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I have already consumed more iced coffee in a day than most people dare to in a week. I am ready for this. I get comfortable and the opening scenes roll. I won’t lie, it feels kind of flat.

The mood didn’t change much. While Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was quite fun at times, it felt similar to Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI) in that the pace was slowed down considerably. I don’t know if this has to do with the age of the actors, the directors, or just a change in what these particular series of movies entailed.

The biggest let down was the whole spaceship thing. I could tell it was coming the second the Roswell incident was mentioned early in the movie. I really hoped that they would move in a different direction though and maybe keep things on THIS planet.

After discussing this with several co-workers, I concluded that moving in the direction the games took would have been more appropriate for this franchise. For example, I believe that Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis would have been a spectacular game to base the new film on. Of course it may have needed a large amount of modification, but I am certain that it would have been more successful than using aliens as a mystery to base things around. After all, how many HUGE mysteries do we have in the world? We covered the ark in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, we got the Cup of Christ in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade… Why not get Atlantis? Everyone knows what it is. Everyone LOVES the thought of finding some city that is thousands of years old. Why wouldn’t they have run with that?

In all fairness, it was an entertaining movie. I highly suggest everyone go see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I give it a 7 out of 10, and will probably see it again to see if I feel the same way on the second go around.

Smart People

Apr 13, 2008 in Movies and TV

I just got done watching 12 Monkeys. It is just a completely odd show. Good, but odd.

So my real motivation for mentioning this is to tell you about a movie I saw last night. We were out for Leslie’s birthday last night and she wanted to see Smart People after dinner was over. It was a great show. It followed a familiar pattern of self examination and personal growth, but put a humorous twist on it that was smart enough to be quite enjoyable. I really loved this movie because it didn’t dumb down its humor. The jokes were well timed and I am pretty sure the word “whore” wasn’t mentioned in it once. In modern cinema, I am afraid to say that is a pretty unique thing.

Performances within the movie were top notch. Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid worked well together and continued to impress me throughout the movie with their ability to actually NOT screw shots up. I think the real star of the show was Ellen Page though. She put in a grand performance that really only had one spot that felt bland to me. The evolution of her character through the movie was spectacular. Though it was not a huge distance, she became much more human by the end of the show. It was nice to see her play that whole spectrum without any difficulty.

Yeah, there you go. Go see Smart People. It doesn’t suck.

Frak Party!

Apr 08, 2008 in Movies and TV, Vacation

So, you may have noticed that I have not posted in quite some time. Well, I was getting ready for and promptly going to Las Vegas for the last weekend or so. Do to some serious amounts of sleep deprivation as well as a good chunk of alcohol coursing through my veins, I just returned and have finally recovered.

I was down there for the BSGCast Frak Party. The Frak Party was thrown at the Golden Nugget on Fremont Street to celebrate the season four premier of Battle Star Galactica. I think it was a great success.

While we were down there, we got to meet Luciana Carro, who plays Kat on the show, and hang out with her for two days. We were also part of the BSGCast that should be coming up on www.bsgcast.com soon. There was also a Q&A session with Luciana and Kevin Grazier who is the scientific advisor for BSG. Richard Hatch was also supposed to be there, but he was not able to attend because of his shooting schedule. The same goes for Tahmoh “Helo” Penikett.

Regardless, there are going to be pics and other things about the event coming up soon. It was one hell of a good time and I can’t wait until we do one for the premier of Caprica when it comes out.

By the way, that was a hint to Matt, Nat, and Ryan. *grin*

Journeyman rocked. Bring it back!

Mar 24, 2008 in Movies and TV

I started watching Journeyman last year and fell in love with it. I would love to see the show come back. The way it was written and performed was genius. I find that the networks have started a trend of unbelievable stupidity since the Jericho debacle.

In case there are some people out there that don’t know, Jericho was canceled after its first season. The people were up in arms about it and forced it to come back. Instead of giving it a budget to work with though, the network chopped their budget and forced Jericho to go into a “single room shot” mentality. This made the show extremely hard to film and made the production value of the show go down considerably. I fear that NBC may do the same thing to Journeyman. This would be a horrible way to ruin one of the best shows on TV in my no so humble opinion.

Journeyman deserves another chance. It was a great show that entertained me to no end (until now!). I would beg for NBC to bring Journeyman back, but I am sure those egotistical, rabbit food eating, cock chomping bastards would just ignore a plebeian like myself. In the event that one of them do read this though, I really want Journeyman back. And if you bring it back, I will stop calling you names for a one year period until you cancel it again like the little retarded twits you are.

Really what it comes down to is that good TV is hard to come by. This whole Surviver/reality TV age has ruined TV for those of us with an IQ above 80. While I understand that the great majority of the US is full of people that have the IQ of a mildly retarded person, I would still love to say that I watched a show that was SOMEWHAT intelligent in its presentation and content.

The Quarterlife Really is Pretty Good.

Feb 28, 2008 in Movies and TV

I watched the first episode again… I liked it overall. The problem is, it didn’t really attract that many people — only 3.1M according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Considering I had only heard of it 2 days before it debuted, I wish that NBC would give it a bit more of a chance. It is a good show and I am sure it will get one hell of a following once people start to know it actually exists. It was addictive in an odd way. And having the pure and extreme loads of hotness acting on it didn’t hurt either. *Yowza!*

The Cutting Edge Sucks…

Feb 26, 2008 in Movies and TV, Past

Yeah… I am going through the channels trying to find something to watch. Bad idea. The shitstorm that is The Cutting Edge is on. I remember being forced to watch it by one of my high school girlfriends (Jennica I think, but who can remember these things?), but I didn’t remember it being this bad. I barely got through 10 minutes before I wanted to choke myself with the hands of the dead hooker in my trunk. Bad day and bad movie…
